The other night, I (with my Dad’s help) came up with the ultimate ‘A Question of Sport’ line up. Just picture it, the opening titles have just finished, and you see yours truly sitting in the hosts chair. To my right you see team captain Ayrton Senna, with his guests Don Bradman and Jesse Owens. To my left we have team captain Muhammad Ali with Pele and Martina Navratilova. What would be yours?

In F1, Michael Schumacher has swapped his number with Nico Rosberg from 4 to 3. Forget about his odd number superstition, I reckon he just wants to be seen as the Mercedes team leader.

The African Cup of Nations Quarter Finals kick off today, with hosts Angola taking on Ghana, and the Ivory Coast vs. Algeria. Tomorrow will see Egypt vs. Cameroon and Zambia doing battle with Nigeria.

State-side now and the American Football divisional Championship games take place today. The AFC Champions will be either the Indianapolis Colts or the New York Jets. The NFC Champions game will be played out between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings. The winners of each game will advance to Super Bowl XLIV (44) in Florida.

That’s all for now, and PS, this is my 50th blog! 😀

Lewis Hamilton is now on the market (dating wise) if any girls out there are interested. It was announced today that he and his Pussycat Doll girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger have ended their almost 2 year relationship. The two met at the 2007 MTV Europe Music awards in Munich, and have been seen together throughout the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In a joint statement, they said that they are going to go their separate ways so that they can focus on their racing and singing careers. I read that Lewis was not yet ready to settle down, (since he is constantly globe-trotting doing the best job in the world). In their statement, they also said that they would remain friends. They have since got back together.

Michael Schumacher will be spending this week at the Jerez circuit in Spain testing GP2 cars so he can be ready to test Mercedes’s new car next month. While testing the car for Formula 1’s feeder series, we will be helping to develop the series’ 2011/2013 car.

Just before I wrote this blog, I saw that the FIA are appealing the overturning of Flavio Briatore’s lifetime ban. Good!

Now, to the African Cup of Nations. Togo, it turns out, wanted to play in the tournament in honour of the men who died. But the Togolese government ordered them home. I was all in favour of them not playing, but know I have seen this; I’m not sure what I would have done. What would you have done?

The first game of the tournament started with a minute’s silence for the fallen Togolese, then 4 goals from the hosts Angola. But in the last 12 minutes, Mali produced a fantastic comeback to draw the game 4-4. Earlier today, Malawi squashed England’s World Cup opponents Algeria 3-0. In tonight’s other game, the Ivory Coast drew 0-0 with Burkina Faso.

In American Football, the Arizona Cardinals beat the Green Bay Packers 51-45 in overtime. In the NFL post-season, this is now the highest scoring game ever. We now know the last 8 teams left in contention to win the Super Bowl. The NFC (National Football Conference)’s divisional playoffs are, the New Orléans Saints vs. the Arizona Cardinals, and the Minnesota Vikings vs. the Dallas Cowboys. The AFC (America Football Conference)’s games are, the Indianapolis Colts vs. the Baltimore Ravens, and the San Diego Chargers vs. the New York Jets. Follow all of that?

Good news for real music lovers everywhere, with the news that Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix will be releasing new albums in 2010. Page, the Led Zeppelin legend, has said that he will make a ‘radical’ statement with his first solo album since 1988. He also plans to do some live shows this year as well. 🙂

Hendrix however, will not be playing any live shows due to the fact that he has been dead since 1970. But that hasn’t stopped the completion of the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s new album ‘Valleys of Neptune’. Songs on the album range from ones that were left off of the group’s first three albums, and others that were recorded after the release of ‘Electric Ladyland’, which was the last album Hendrix released before he died. ‘Valleys of Neptune’ will also feature a cover of Creams timeless song ‘Sunshine of Your Love’. This features one Eric Clapton on guitar, so God knows what it will sound like with Hendrix playing it. He was extremely good at covers was Hendrix. Bob Dylan was so impressed by Hendrix’s cover of ‘All Along The Watchtower’, that he sings and plays to Hendrix’s music, and not his own.

After gunmen killed their driver, a press officer and an assistant coach, and with several players injured, the Togo football team are going home and not playing in the African Cup of Nations which is kicking off as I write this. I hope that all those affected by this horrific episode recover quickly and that Togo can pick themselves up and carry on.

I say that the correct decision has been made in Togo withdrawing and going home. None of the players and team officials would have been in a fit state to play highly competitive football on a continental stage, and it is in the best interests of the whole party that they are brought back.

Athletics news now, and the fastest man ever, Usain Bolt has said that he will not be taking part in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October. This is because his focus for this year is on the brand new ‘IAAF Diamond League’, which takes place over 14 events all over the world. Two of these events take place in Gateshead and London. Bolt then says he will start to train and prepare for the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Britain’s Heptathlon World Champion Jessica Ennis will also miss the games, as may Paula Radcliffe giving the same reason. The security threat is also why many more athletes may give the games a miss, which at the moment are looking like becoming a farce with venues struggling to meet deadlines and high-profile withdrawals. I hope I’m proved wrong, but I’m not convinced on this one.

I knew a lot of people were worried that Athens wouldn’t be ready for the Olympic Games in 2004, but I stuck by them. It was Greece and the Olympics. It would be alright.

In American Football, the Wild Card play offs are taking place also as I write this. The New York Jets have beaten the Cincinnati Bengals 24-14. The Dallas Cowboys have also beaten the Philadelphia Eagles 34-14. At half-time, the Baltimore Ravens lead the New England Patriots 24-7. The game between the Arizona Cardinals and Green Bay Packers hasn’t started yet.

That’s all folks.
